Amir Aghelnejad, Head of Film Production
Photography was always Amir's first love; it was where he was most comfortable and given room to demonstrate his creativity. At an early age, he began focusing on slide films, which caught his interest due to their vibrant and awe-inspiring colors. After high school, his attention turned to videography.
Amir's passion for film coincided with his love for punk rock music. These two elements resulted in his first project of capturing moments with a camera. He began to film punk bands in rank basements and gymnasiums and, using this footage, edited and produced a series of VHS tapes. As his interest in filmmaking grew, Amir decided to pursue the craft more intently by enrolling in the Film Studies Program at Capilano University. He continued to shoot live bands and create short, humourous films as he worked on actual film and television sets.
The practical knowledge he acquired by being on set and watching other directors taught him much about the process of filmmaking. After a few years as, Amir was able to apply his skills to larger and more advanced projects. He was hired by MTV Canada to produce and host a segment aptly named, "Aghelnejad's Word of the Day".
Amir has since edited, produced and shot a multitude of TV shows and pilots and directed a handful of short films. At New Image he serves as chief videographer, editor and DVD technician. As a director and module instructor, Amir oversees the creation of short films for New Image, and assists student actors with demo and audition reels, interviews and event videography. He also serves as editor and cinematographer on select New Image Entertainment feature film projects.
