Teen Job Shadowing for Independent Filmmaking
Upcoming opportunity: December 2012 (TBD)
New Image College, Vancouver’s #1 academy for film acting, film & TV make-up and special effects, wants you to job shadow on the set of our latest feature film!
What is job shadowing?
In December, five lucky students from high schools around Vancouver were given the opportunity to make their cinematic dreams a reality.
After registering for our winter job shadowing program, these talented young actors and make-up artists found themselves thrown into a real movie production. For several days, they helped out on the set of New Image Entertainment's upcoming feature film, The Clean-Up, directed by lauded independent filmmaker Chris Scheuerman.
The Clean-Up is a gritty crime thriller involving a near-future mafia that deals in illegal medical experiments. In helping bring this dystopian vision to the screen, our young trainees quickly became acquainted with gruesome special effects and emotional acting.
Over the course of a few days, they worked closely with cast and crew, received instructions from New Image make-up and acting teachers, and enjoyed the excitement of professional filmmaking. Our goal is to awaken creative passion in everyone we meet, and if the rave reviews from students and school administrators is any indication, we've more than met that goal!
New Image Entertainment makes one or more feature films a year, which means more exciting possibilities for young students. Due to the success of our first job shadowing adventure, we're bringing it back in 2012!
When is it?
Our next available internship opportunity will run in December 2012 (exact dates TBD)! Intern for three days (max. 10 hours per day) with working professionals and help us make a hit!
New Image Entertainment productions may contain scenes of violence and coarse language. Parental and participant discretion is advised.
What students are saying!
"Working with New Image College for three days was a great opportunity I managed to be a part of. I learned more acting experience in those three days than I have in my entire life. The actors and staff that reside there were amazing and I will always be grateful for the opportunity that was presented to me and I hope I can return to New Image in the future as a student."
— Avery S, Grade 12 drama student
Here's what these students had to say about their experience on set:
I thoroughly enjoyed the job shadowing experience at New Image as it gave me valuable work experience in my prospective career field. Everyone on set was exceptionally welcoming, and they all appeared grateful for the work I and the other shadowers were doing. Being on a real film set was exciting, and the only disappointment was the fact the experience only lasted 3 days.
- Amy P, Westview Maple Ridge Secondary
During my 3 day job shadowing with New Image College I learned a lot of the procedures on a film set. I was able to do various jobs with different people. I had a great time job shadowing and would love to work with New Image again.
- Joey L, Cariboo Secondary
I had a great time working with New Image on their film. I am greatly appreciative for being offered this opportunity to work on a professional film set. I learned the positions and tasks of each department from craft services to the art department and the actors. I will be able to take these experiences with me as I pursue my career in the film industry.
- Ashley W, Earl Marriot Secondary
Thank you so much to all the people at New Image College of Fine Arts for letting me participate in your program. I had so much fun meeting all the people that were working on set and helping with making the movie. How welcoming everyone was just made this whole thing 100 times better. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you ever need anyone to even clean up after. I really just loved the experience of being around all of you. Having the experience of being on set helping was just so nice. Once again thank you all so much. I hope to see you again.
- Shawna W, Hansworth Secondary
I just wanted to thank you for having our student, Krysti, for the 3 day job shadow. She came in to school this week and said it was such an amazing experience; she learned so much. Krysti also said that the students from your school were very welcoming and gave her a lot of information about your school and programs. She would recommend this job shadow to anyone! So thank you once again for the opportunity.
- Georgina Hopps, Career Development Facilitator at Eagle Panorama Ridge Secondary, regarding student Krysti L
What schools are saying!
"I can't thank [New Image] enough. Krystyna had the time of her life. And the experience really did help her help narrow her field for career choice. She's gifted in the Sciences, Writing, and Art, and always assumed she needed to pursue the academics even though her heart wasn't in it. Now she knows it definitely Art all the way. Thank you again with providing her with such a marvelous opportunity."
— Penny Griffin, Career Prep and Work Experience Coordinator, Grade 12 Academic Advisor, Pitt Meadows Secondary School
