This episode represented a major boost to New Image's publicity, as well as the first appearance of British Columbia and Vancouver in the hit show. The episode first premiered on January 16 and has entered regular rotation on Slice TV.
From Slice's website: "West Coast mama Charie runs a successful school of fine arts in downtown Vancouver. A self-professed “workaholic”, Charie has nonetheless promised to give her daughter, Shyann, her undivided attention in planning an exclusive VIP graduation party for Shyann and her closest friends. The only problem is that Charie finds out her school’s annual makeup competition is on the same date. Adding to Charie’s nightmare, Shyann insists that Charie relocate the party venue to Whistler, two hours away! Can one party mama make two parties memorable? Or will Charie’s plans come crashing to the ground?"

Graduates of our acting and make-up programs are showcasing their talents all over the film industry. Today brings us Twisted Perspectives, a newly completed short film from director Nauris Nikans. This surrealist slice of horror features contributions from actor Meghan Roche, make-up wizard Megan Nicholson and behind-the-camera assists from multitalented acting grad Rob Guthrie.
Meghan plays the role of Adi, a woman who haunts the mind of the tormented Eitan. According to Nikans, "Approximately 80 people responded to my casting call, but none of them really fit the role of Adi. Meghan Roche was the perfect match... her professional attitude and skills allowed us to gain the best results in the shortest time possible, which is very essential in the film industry. Meghan's acting was absolutely stunning. She managed to show emotions and feelings in the ways that enhanced her lines. Just by looking at her the viewer can understand what is going on with her character."
Meghan can also be seen in the upcoming New Image Entertainment thriller Bad Building and several short films including Wave, All In Two Days and indie trailer Whipperman. She is currently represented by Performers Management.
Megan Nicholson provided the special make-up effects for the film, including a gruesome gunshot wound. A graduate of New Image's make-up training, her work can be seen in New Image Entertainment creature-feature B.F.M. and the upcoming all-star indie horror flick The Profane Exhibit.
"I could totally rely on her judgement and professionalism," says Nikans of Megan's work. "The makeup and hair look awesome on camera." See more of Megan's skills on her GORE-Geous Make-up & FX fan page.
Acting graduate and general cineaste Rob Guthrie aided Twisted Perspectives as camera assistant and 3rd AD. Rob honed his professional skills on both sides of the camera on New Image features including Famine, B.F.M., The Clean-Up and numerous short films. "That is amazing how much knowledge he has," said Nikans. "Just by being on different sets he has learned so much. The experience he has allows him to be very flexible in terms of which position to take on set: cast or crew. He does his job equally outstanding."
The official synopsis of Twisted Perspectives describes the film as being about "a young man who has been living in the world of twisted perspectives after he lost his love of life." A photographer by training, Nauris fills his frame with rich detail, and the film also features beautiful noir cinematography from DOP Isik Nox. Nauris rounds out most of the tech credits himself, including editing and VFX.
In addition to being part of over a dozen short films in the last year, Nauris Nikans has previous experience with New Image projects, having assisted on the set of our recent crime thriller The Clean-Up. Check out his other projects and more stills of Twisted Perspectives on his site.
In addition to its current online release, Twisted Perspectives is also coming to theatres! The official premiere will be at Pacific Cinematheque on 1131 Howe street, Vancouver, BC on the 24th of February at 1pm. Refreshments will be served. Check it out!
Granville 7 Theatre is going to be a scary place on Saturday, February 18th: New Image acting programme graduate Michelle Sabiene is coming to the big screen as the star of TRUTH, an original horror film which blends desperate romance with ghostly terror.
The official synopsis of Truth: "An estranged couple on a weekend retreat are pushed further apart when the wife, Becca, becomes romantically fascinated with the journal of the cabin's long-dead former owner. When the ghost of the old owner appears and reciprocates Becca's feelings, the web of betrayals and untruths between Becca and her husband begins to unravel."
Michelle plays Becca opposite actor Benjamin Hanson, from a script by director J.S. Johnson in collaboration with writer Chris Shalom. The film promises to feature sinister suspense, a lush Galiano Island setting and some ghostly shocks. Johnson aims high in his hype for his first feature-length film, promising that Truth will be "a benchmark in modern horror" and comparing the film to the works of Hitchcock and Kubrick.
As a 2010 graduate of the two-year New Image acting program, Michelle Sabiene is no stranger to the grim and suspenseful. She can also be seen in two upcoming New Image Entertainment productions: the slasher-comedy Famine and the gritty mob thriller The Clean-Up. We at New Image would like to congratulate her on this indie breakthrough.
The premiere of Truth is set to include drinks, live jazz, and the company of other indie film-goers. Should be a blast!

New Image job shadowing program brings teen actors & artists to real indie films!
In December, five lucky students from high schools around Vancouver were given the opportunity to make their cinematic dreams a reality. For several days, they helped out on the set of New Image Entertainment's upcoming feature film, The Clean-Up, directed by lauded independent filmmaker Chris Scheuerman.
The Clean-Up is a gritty crime thriller involving a near-future mafia that deals in illegal medical experiments. In helping bring this dystopian vision to the screen, our young trainees quickly became acquainted with gruesome special effects and emotional acting. Over the course of a few days, they worked closely with cast and crew, received instructions from New Image make-up and acting teachers, and enjoyed the excitement of professional filmmaking. Our goal is to awaken creative passion in everyone we meet, and if the rave reviews from students and school administrators is any indication, we've more than met that goal!

New Image actors knocking 'em dead onscreen!
Congrats to New Image acting grad Mike Li on his recent success. He's currently on set of the Vancouver-lensed series Fringe, portraying a member of an FBI special-forces unit. He's been working eight days so far on this hit sci-fi series.
As well, Gustavo Macserna has just picked up the lead role in a yet-untitled Mexican suspense-horror feature, based on a true story. Multi-talented acting grad and singer Leo Wong is furthering his career a little more every day with professional singing gigs around town. And of course second-year student Sotos Petrides continues to rock it with multiple short film roles in addition to his full-time schooling. We wish you all the best!
