Stephanie Walker is a singer, songwriter, actress and artist. She grew up in North Vancouver and was the only child of a singer/songwriter mother and a professional drummer dad. Her first studio session was at the age of 10 when she sang on one of her mother's original children's CDs, and between the ages of 10 and 12 she performed and sang with her mother at numerous venues including Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver and the Arts Club Revue Stage in Granville Island.
Thru ought high school Stephanie continued to sing, particularly jazz. With her natural ability to scat, spot on pitch and excellent sense of timing she was deemed a member of elite jazz choirs and trios performing around Vancouver at intimate Venues.
Stephanie was also a recipient of numerous vocal awards including the school's top award, the "Golden Vocal Chord" trophy given to her upon high school graduation.
Stephanie began to write music more seriously after that so she decided to take guitar lessons to better accompany herself, but when her guitar teacher heard her singing while she was playing he asked if he would like to record her vocals over some jazz guitar he had previously recorded. With that her album began. By the time she was 18, Stephanie had already written and recorded a number of songs and was sharing her own music at small intimate venues.
"I love sharing my music and taking in everyone's reactions. It's really about sharing a piece of myself with the audience and is so very rewarding for me."
In 2008 she was introduced to New Image College of Fine Arts by a friend and decided to sign up for an acting class. As it turned out Stephanie loved the class, she loved creativity and connection with her emotions it brought to her and the intense focus it demanded. Stephanie decided to sign up for the full time program.
Acting was something she had been missing all along. It is a craft that demands emotional awareness, dedication, focus and discipline. I was always excited to see where it would take me next and how far I could push my limits." I was challenged in all those aspects at New Image College of Fine Arts.
Filming of the first episode is slated to commence in September of 2010, and between this and writing and recording the soundtrack, Stephanie has created an alter ego for performing known as Elle-Ectric and continues to write and record her own music. She also has designed her CD cover and freelances as a graphic designer.
Stephanie has an upcoming show this month (August the 25th) at a downtown venue called the Railway Club.
Check out Stephanie's MySpace page and her Blog (as her alter ego, Elle-Ectric) which feature her designs and original music, including the songs she has created for Reigncity The Series.
