Testimonials
"As a classically trained theatre actor, New Image taught me to take what I knew and apply it to a film environment. Acting instructors Philip Granger, Ingrid Torrance, John Emmet Tracy and Patrick Sabongui were all particularly instrumental in helping me focus my skills toward film acting. The school also exposed me to figures within the Vancouver film industry, through which I met my agent. Thanks, New Image!"
- Nathan Durec, actor
"The school is a community. I still wander the halls here. I never stop learning from here... I learned about set etiquette, who to talk to, where to go. I would have shown up on set and have known none of this and looked like a complete rookie. They gave me the skill and confidence to do what I love, but also the practical knowledge of how to be a professional."
- Jarod Joseph, actor
"I went to New Image College, which is a fantastic school in downtown... I figured that if I am not gonna work right off the bat without formal training, I thought I should be engulfed in it every day, so those 12 months were a good experience for my mentally and maintaining a precise state of mind."
- Jarod Joseph, actor, quoted in Justalilhype! interview
"Some of my instructors are off the wall, but all of them have tons of energy and passion for the art, and truly love what they teach. It really shows. The acting instructors are honest and truthful, which is what you need in this industry... I now want to take my education and my experiences that I have gained from this phenomenal program and apply it to the industry."
- Thabi Maphoso, actor
"The courses and modules were quite intensive and the teachers all were professional actors who taught me some very valuable lessons about commitment, discipline, etiquette as well as core acting techniques, characterizations, memorization, voice, movement and scene study. The 2 Year Conservatory that is now the industry standard is the best option in my view for those new to the industry. After taking an intensive Audition Class with Ingrid Torrence, my audition success rate went from one in ten to one in three. Wow! I know.
My acting also improved with the teachings of John Tench, Peter Hanlon, Greg Webb, Philip Granger, Josette Jorge, John Emmet Tracey - to name a few of the stellar acting teachers at this school. The best thing about New Image comes based on what you put into it. This is a supportive environment that gently prepares actors for work in the real world. It's not just about putting in the time; it's about learning to be in character and constantly trying to improve, reach out and expand horizons. Success comes when you work hard. This is what I learned from New Image."
- Sotos Petrides, actor
"I really had an awesome time at New Image, especially because of the instructors. We had fun. The biggest thing for me though was the relationships I built at New Image with both instructors and students. Some have become wonderful and amazing friends, and that would not have happened without New Image."
- Dave Thompson, actor
""Working with [acting instructor] Philip Granger was a pleasure. He brings immense dedication and decades of experience to his craft. In addition, both my key make-up artists and three other make-up artists for Toxin 3D were all New Image students – not even yet graduated – and they were lifesavers. They created amazing heavy make-up and gore effects, and professionally handled all the pressures of a feature film set. Clearly this is a place that trains professionals. New Image College of Fine Arts rocks!"
- Tom Raycove, feature film director and VP Development & Production at Industry Film Works
"I find New Image approaches talent agents more than any other school. By being involved at a social level, it makes me want to come to their showcases, to their plays and see the new talent they have to offer. They don't have to do that, they could teach acting and that's that, but they choose to go beyond because their genuinely care about seeing their students work."
- Aaron Alexander, talent agent, King Talent Inc.
"As an established Talent Agent in Vancouver, B.C., I have had the opportunity to attend at many of the graduating class functions for New Image. In my opinion, the calibre of actor coming out of the college is most often very high. The instructors at the college are dedicated, trained professionals... the education the students receive in their two year programs is extremely well rounded, giving them every opportunity for success upon graduation. I would gladly lend my name to this school, and recommend it highly."
- Kathy Carpenter, talent agent, KC Talent Agency
"In the past year, I've cast two New Image grads as leads in features straight out of school, and I really do believe that's due to the attention paid to New Image's curriculum and teachers. I'm impressed by the fact that the school has teachers who are experienced and working actors in town. I think it's so important that those teaching new actors should be able to impart some real insight into the industry. There are so many "ins and outs" to being an actor. Technique and talent are vital, but so is understanding the business aspect of film and television, and knowing what is expected of actors in auditions and on set. I don't think that one can learn that as effectively if they're not hearing it from people who are still living that day to day. New Image students are very fortunate to be part of the learning environment they are."
- Judy Lee, casting director
"[New Image graduate] Sunil was solid and gave a funny performance. As we are watching all of the dailies, we are just loving his work. Also, New Image graduates Andrew Benett, Sean Pouge and Mandi Derry also delivered stellar performances. Good work on part of the school. Keep pumping out solid actors and I'll keep casting them."
- Mark Tuit, feature film director
"80 people responded to the casting call and [New Image acting grad] Meghan Roche was chosen for the role of Adi. She was really outstanding because of her ability to understand the character and follow the director's guidelines. Her professional attitude and skills allowed us to gain the best results in the shortest time possible, which is very essential in the film industry. Meghan's acting was absolutely stunning.
Megan Collins [New Image make-up program grad] was our makeup artist. I really enjoyed her skills and knowledge. Just by explaining what I wanted to achieve and showing the location she was able to pull off an incredible job. I could totally rely on her judgement and professionalism. The makeup and hair look awesome on camera.
Also on set we had [New Image acting grad] Rob Guthrie. He was our AC even though he is an actor. That is amazing how much knowledge he has. Just by being on different sets he has learned so much. The experience he has allows him to be very flexible in terms of which position to take on set: cast or crew. He does his job equally outstanding.
Thank you once again."
