Evelyn Chew

Evelyn has been an actress based in Vancouver for almost 15 years. She is a graduate of both Douglas College and Studio 58 Acting Programs. She’s worked with many of the city’s best theatre companies and continues her work on screen with recent appearances on The Mysterious Benedict Society, Narcoleap, and Motherland. As a performer, she has been described as intelligent, convincing, fearless, fiercely honest and hilarious. She’s completed two national tours including “She Has A Name” a critically acclaimed play about human trafficking and sexual slavery in which she played the lead. In “Canada, It’s Complicated” director and comedy legend, Mary Walsh, presented Evelyn as one of the country’s young, up-and-coming performers.

Evelyn’s connection to marginalized and mixed ability communities have made her a champion for kindness, empathy, inclusivity and self-advocacy. She is an ensemble member with LEAD at Neworld Theatre, a neurodiverse theatre group and is a mentor with the UBCP Diversity and Inclusion mentorship program. Evelyn has helped develop many new projects including her work with Women In the Director’s Chair (Acting Ensemble), Banff Playwrites Colony (Acting Ensemble, Banff Centre for the Arts) and LEAP Playwriting Intensive (Acting Ensemble, Arts Club Theatre Company) which provided critical feedback to young playwrites in a safe and supportive environment.

Evelyn works with a deep sense of compassion, integrity and resilience. She’s passionate about creating healthy work practices and likes to lead by example and with love. She loves play, rigour and creating high-calibre work that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.

Other career highlights include acting at Caravan Farm Theatre under open skies, in fields and snow with horse castmates, receiving a Jessie Richardson Award with Neworld Theatre (Are We There Yet?) and shadowing Raugi Yu as he directed an independent feature film.
