Acting for the Camera (Youth) is an introductory program designed to help young actors explore their creativity, imagination, and confidence on camera.
This course encourages teens to discover their natural voice and presence while learning how to make their performances feel real, focused, and engaging.
Program Overview
Acting for the Camera Online (Youth) combines interactive online lessons with project-based exercises in a supportive and engaging environment. Over 6 weeks, students explore the fundamentals of acting for the screen, including audition basics, self-taping techniques, and how to make authentic performance choices.
Classes cover text analysis, performance techniques, and an introduction to presenting yourself on camera with confidence. NIC’s experienced instructors guide students through creative exercises and provide constructive feedback to help them grow, explore, and build confidence in their on-camera skills.

- Submit a completed Student Application Form and Admissions Questionnaire (available in paper or online formats).
- Documents signed by parent/guardian.
Curriculum
TEXT ANALYSIS • MOVEMENT, VOICE & SPEECH • SCENE STUDY
This Acting for the Camera Online (Youth) program is designed to help students explore acting techniques while building confidence, creativity, and foundational on-camera skills through hands-on learning and regular performance practice.
Students begin by developing strong foundations in diction, vocal presence, imagination, relaxation, and physical awareness. As the program progresses, they learn how to analyze text, uncover meaning within scenes, and make clear acting choices that feel natural and truthful. Improvisation and performance exercises support creative expression, confidence, and flexibility.
Throughout the course, students learn how to prepare scenes, develop believable characters, and understand the importance of backstory and being present in the moment. They are introduced to essential on-camera skills such as self-tape auditions, wardrobe choices, and the basics of audition expectations, including Zoom callbacks.
In the final weeks, students apply what they’ve learned in a showcase performance, experiencing the excitement of sharing their work with others. The program concludes with reflection and discussion to ensure students leave with a clear understanding of the skills they’ve developed and how acting can continue as a creative and personal pathway.
This program does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education & Future Skills. As such, PTIRU did not review this program.
