Do you want to take your makeup to the next level? Do you want to learn how to create crazy characters with depth and thoughtfulness? Do you want to scare but impress your friends with special makeup effects, like cuts and bullet holes?

This 5-day introductory program is designed specifically for those ages 12 to 17 who are inspired by face painting, character design and special makeup effects! The program concludes with a fun photoshoot to capture students’ amazing characters’ fx creations!

Program Overview

Explore makeup through the creation of a character and bringing it to life

This Character & FX Creations recreational course is a 5-day course designed for those ages 12 to 17 who are inspired by face painting, character design and special makeup effects. The program is led by a knowledgeable instructor with step-by-step procedures and concludes with a fun photoshoot to capture students’ amazing character creations! All successful students will receive an Award of Completion with a possible opportunity of acceptance into the Profession Makeup Artist Program or the Film Makeup Master’s Program!

At the end of this program, students will have a deeper understanding of the elements of makeup design and the practical ability to apply makeup successfully. They will also gain foundational knowledge on character design and gain an introductory understanding of the world of professional makeup artistry.

We will give you the knowledge and tools to design a character of your own and bring it to life through makeup art.

Courses Included

The Character & FX Creations program is divided into the following modules:

Introduction to Face Painting

Students start with the basics of facial design. They will start with a brief introduction to colour theory and learn about colour placement for eye-catching designs. Paint layering and design building are an important parts of this class. Students will work alongside their instructors, step by step, in an interactive setting!

Introduction to Character Design

In this section, students will learn how to create characters of their choice! They will learn about expression, and appropriate placements. Line work and shading will be a strong part of this section. Instructors will walk students through the character creation process and the techniques required for amazing executions!

Introduction to Makeup FX

Students will begin the building blocks of special makeup effects in their final section! Blood, guts and gore will be explored and created, and then re-created, again and again! Students will study bruising patterns, wound making, blood splatter and so much more! Appropriate placement and injury design will also be engaged.

Program Requirements

Program exclusive for ages 12-17.

Students will need to provide a model for their last day of class.

Program Duration

25 hours – 5 days (1 pm to 6 pm)

This program does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training. As such, PTIB did not review this program.

The tuition fee includes the Character and FX Creations Kit (valued at $300). Students are given limitless use of supplies and products to work on each other during the practical portions of the modules that they are attending at the time. The tuition fee doesn’t include basic school supplies (pens, pencils, highlighters, sharpeners, erasers, white-out, tape, scissors, binders, paper, etc.)
