Divided into three modules, Nails, Skin, and Body, our comprehensive, hands-on training produces professionals that excel in their field. NIC understands the importance of practical experience and supplies our students with ample opportunity to hone and improve their skill set.

Program Overview
Learn spa techniques and the ins and outs of a salon business.
Our Spa Program encompasses all aspects of skin care, body care and nail care. Our working student spa allows the students to practice their skills in a real spa environment that gives them the confidence they will need to work with clients.
During the Skin Care Module students will learn thorough skin analysis and consultation techniques that will help them determine skin types and conditions. Students will be instructed in the use of magnifying lamps, hydrodermie machines, steamer, and high frequency machines, including anaphoresis and cataphoresis applications. Treating the skin by using the correct products and services will allow the students to see transformations in themselves and their clients.
Students learn about the art of healing touch in the Body Care Module. Starting with correct massage techniques and perfect posture, the students will learn how to execute a well-rounded healing and relaxing treatment including relaxation, aromatherapy, pregnancy, warm stone and cellulite massage. They will continue with hair removal, lash and brow tinting, back facials and body wraps.
Students transition into the Nail Care Module and learn all about correct nail care including strict sanitation protocols. They will be fully confident with manicures and pedicures before they move into reflexology, sea salt scrubs, paraffin and warm stone massage. The program moves on to nail art, including gel and acrylic enhancements. This program teaches the latest techniques in nail art design using freehand brush nail art design and the use of decal accessories. The students will finish this module by learning ear piercing and semi-permanent lash extensions.

NIC’s Esthetics program is divided into three main modules: Nail, Skin and Body Care. Check below the courses included in each module.
Nail Care module courses
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be competent in providing a stunning manicure and pedicure service. Students will learn the process of these services including shaping the nails, thorough cuticle work and a perfect polish application. This course teaches the students how to take care of the client’s cuticle and nail plate properly and safely through the common practice of nippers. The polish application will range from regular to gel, including French tips and amazing nail art. Students will have the opportunity to use various mediums such as gold leaf and gemstones, magnetic gel polish, and much more for their beautiful and creative designs. They will also learn how to relax, nourish, and hydrate the client’s skin through various massage products and techniques. The knowledge and techniques learned will help when customizing treatments per the client’s needs. They will gain a comprehensive understanding of paraffin wax and hot stone treatments. The successful student will also have a comprehensive understanding of facial and fingertips/toes waxing.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have learned the proper techniques required in completing a set of Acrylic nails. This will include product knowledge and techniques on how to effectively build up and shape the artificial nails using acrylic monomer and polymer on tips and forms. Students will be familiar with the techniques involved in drilling and buffing the nails to create the final shape. They will also have the ability to create 3D nail art using acrylic as well as advanced 2D nail art techniques. As with the Gel module, students will hone their skill with the NIC´s Russian manicure technique and gel polish.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will have the ability to enhance the client’s nails through a variety of Gel products and techniques such as Hard Gel, Poly Gel and Gel X (Après). The student will be able to identify the client’s needs and use the proper techniques and products to achieve the result. This would include the use of a particular Gel product with tips and forms. This course will further develop the student’s skills pertaining to the maintenance and care of the cuticle and nail plate through the highly sought after NIC’s Russian manicure technique. Students will be versed in safely shaping the nail using a nail drill and files. Students will then complete the look with gel polish and will have the ability to add a creative flare by use of 2D and 3D nail art. This technique can be used to customize and bring personality to the client’s nails.
Students will also learn all aspects of creating a professional resume, being fully prepared when applying for jobs, as well as learning integral interviewing skills that will prepare them for commonly asked questions they may get from a future employer. By the end of this module, the student will have a full understanding of how to own and operate a salon and manage a schedule. This includes managing a budget and marketing. They will also learn how to up-sell services and retail products.
Skin Care module courses
This course encompasses facial techniques including eye makeup removal, facial cleansing, skin analysis, extractions, exfoliations, mask application, and facial massages. It contains IPL theory and IPL Photo rejuvenation, vascular, acne, and pigmentation treatments for the face, hands, and neck. Microdermabrasion skin resurfacing, skin care history, professional image, treatment room preparation and disinfection control, as well as relaxation, stone, lymph, and digital pressure massages for the face.
This course teaches the students how to perform a thorough skin analysis and consultation to determine skin types and conditions. This will allow for proper product application on the skin for maximum benefits.
This course will help the student develop a deep understanding of the layers of the epidermis and dermis. This includes its minute structures, functions, and basic knowledge of the bones and muscles of the face and neck.
This course gives the student understanding of electricity and how it plays a role in enhancing facial treatments. The use of high frequency can help with acne and the use of galvanic currents can help with deeper product penetration for dry skin.
The students will become knowledgeable about the ingredients found in skin care products in this course, which will make them more confident when educating clients on appropriate product decisions.
Body Care module courses
In this course, students will learn about trichology (the scientific study of hair) to fully understand the cycles of hair growth. Students will learn different hair removal techniques to better cater to individual needs. From waxing to Intense pulse light (IPL), the esthetics student will learn how to eliminate the unwanted hair from the hair root to the tip.
Students will learn what is aromatherapy and how the oils come from aromatic plants and flowers to relax, balance, or rejuvenate the body. Implementing different essential oils into aroma wraps and massages helps the student achieve either a rejuvenating or relaxing effect on the body.
In this course, students will learn that massage therapy is a great way to induce physiological and psychological responses in the body. The following massage techniques treat the muscles on a deeper level, allowing relaxation and healing pain soothing the mind and body: Swedish (relaxation), aromatherapy, deep tissue, pregnancy, hot stone, scalp, and cellulite massage.
The body may have different issues that appear within the skin. The treatments learned in this course allow the student to recognize these issues and correctly treat them with exfoliation, massage, and wraps. The full body exfoliation is done with a dry mitt or papaya enzyme technique that reveals softer and truly rejuvenated skin. Mud wraps are a great way to detoxify the body and seaweed wraps help metabolize cellulite. The student will also learn how to give the body a perfect glow using bronzing products. It will be also learned in this module the many types of cosmetic surgeries and medical terminologies that will give a deeper understanding of pre- and post- treatments. As well, students will also be aware of different treatments for stretch marks and varicose veins.
It is critical for a well-rounded esthetician to be aware of pre-and post-operative treatments. This course teaches professional cosmetic and surgical terminology. You will also learn how Botox and Restylane work within the muscle and nerve tissues.
Co-Op work portion
With the assistance of the NIC Community and our resources, students will begin the basis of their professional Nail Technician careers. Our co-op work placement will offer incredible opportunities, so we urge students to work hard, and remember that the NIC Community is always available to help.

Program Requirements
- Applicants must be at least 19 years of age or hold a high school diploma.
- Submit a completed Student Application Form and Admissions Questionnaire (available in paper or online formats).
- Must provide proof of English language and academic proficiency.
- Results of one of the approved English language tests must be forwarded to the school before acceptance into the program. The minimum scores for each test are as follows:
- IELTS (International English Testing System): 5
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Internet-based: 68
- TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication): 600-700
- FCE (Cambridge First Certificate in English): Level B1
- DET (Duolingo English Test): 95
- PTE (Pearson Test of English Core Test): 45.4
- CLB PT (Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test): CLB 6
- CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program): CELPIP 6

The tuition fee includes the Esthetics Kit (valued at $1,200). Students are given limitless use of supplies and products to work on each other during the practical portions of the modules that they are attending at the time. The tuition fee doesn’t include basic school supplies (pens, pencils, highlighters, sharpeners, erasers, white-out, tape, scissors, binders, paper, etc.)

During your Spa Program, you will receive instruction in 3 modules: Skin, Body and Nails.
Amongst others, students will learn facials and back facials, waxing, eyelash/ brow tinting, body massages, specialized facials with galvanic current, manicure, pedicure, IPL treatments, microdermabrasion, threading, body wraps, body scrub, and more!
We use a variety of products, but the main line of skincare that we use both during classes and when performing client services are from Guinot Skincare.
All students are expected to practice their skills with their classmates and to make themselves available for their classmates to practice on. Once you are skilled, you will have the opportunity to practice on real clients through the NIC Spa.
Yes! This is one of the many great things about the Spa Technician program. Students are encouraged to practice their learned skills on real clients through our student spa located inside the campus. You will be booked with real clients giving you the full hands-on experience and preparing you for your future in the industry.
98% of our students are qualified to start working in the industry right away after graduation. This is because our students graduate with a lot of practical, hands-on experience. Our spa allows our students to work on real clients before they are ready to transition into their careers. Real client experience is essential because it builds confidence, product knowledge, and expertise in sanitation protocols.
The Beauty Council’s Certification is an qualification exam that earns you the internationally recognized Certified Cosmetology Professional (CCP) designation. This credential demonstrates your expertise and the professional standard of your services to clients, employers and peers, standing apart from untrained workforce in the industry.
Upon completion of the Spa Technician Program you will be eligible to apply for the Beauty Council’s Certificate of Qualification in Facial Theory, Waxing and Nails. You might be eligible for the Certificate of Qualification in Esthetics once you are skilled in Evening Makeup as their practical exam require this.

Yes, many students have been sponsored by their employers once they complete the program. The Government of Canada offers many levels of Express Entry programs for employees to achieve permanent residency in Canada.
Yes, you can, but more training may be required depending on the position requirements.
