Precision. Power. Presence!
There’s a lot more to action on screen than it might appear, and that’s exactly what students in NIC’s Film Acting Conservatory got to explore in a recent Action for Actors class.
Led by instructor and stunt performer Yu Matsushita, students learned how to move with intention, stay connected to the camera, and make physical action look both real and safe. From understanding how the camera reads movement to executing clean, controlled technique, every detail was part of the lesson.
The class culminated in a short choreographed combat sequence, where students put it all together: physical control, spatial awareness, and cinematic presence working in sync. It’s the kind of training that asks actors to think about their body as a performance tool, and to approach action with the same care and preparation they’d bring to any scene.
For students training toward professional film work, this kind of hands-on experience is invaluable. Action sequences are a regular part of the industry, and knowing how to perform them safely and convincingly is a real skill. Well done to everyone who took part. 💥
