Our SFX Makeup students are diving into the world of casting and mold-making.

Practicing full casting techniques on each other, they’re learning the detailed process behind creating realistic special effects pieces for film and television. It’s meticulous, hands-on work, and it’s where some of the most impressive effects begin — starting with a life cast of the model’s head.

This cast becomes the base for their Foam Latex Character project: once it’s complete, they’ll sculpt their character in clay on top of it, then mold and cast that sculpture in Foam Latex to create the full head prosthetic worn by the model.
